What is a True Blockchain?

According to John Karanja, the Founder and CEO of Bithub (www.bithub.co.ke) True blockchains have at least 4 elements            

1. The Ledger which contains permanent records of transactions. 
2. The Token or crypto-currency that rewards miners/stakers for securing The Ledger.
3. The Network Protocol used to transmit the tokens.        
4. The open source software used to govern the above.            

The reason I’m writing this short post is that increasingly we are seeing alot of action in this space and we need to always remember the basics.
